About the Author

Through poetic prose and world-famous illustrations, Rege Podraza brings a glimpse of the Dark Continent to readers everywhere. Podraza's recently released book, Where Elephants Go to Die, is a collection of 100 original poems that promises to take readers on a unique journey through the wilds of Africa and the depths of the heart.

Using an eclectic mix of stories in poetry form, Podraza successfully reaches the wide range of emotions many poetry readers seek on their wild page-to-page rides. Podraza has a way with words. "It's poetry about what you feel when a lion's coming down on you and your gun jams," he says. "It's not the mushy stuff." But don't let him fool you. This is poetry anyone can read. It's the stuff that gets the blood pumping… touches the heart… tickles the funny bone. These are poems based on real-life experiences and observations that lend explanation to those who have never ventured to the Dark Continent, and authenticity for those who know it well.

Podraza, an avid hunter and sportsman began writing in 1992 after he was seriously injured in a hunting accident when his tree stand, let loose dropping him to the ground below. "I started writing when I was in the hospital. Putting my recollections down on paper made me realize how fortunate I was to have experienced so much. And it gave me something to look forward to," he said. Months of rehab, determination and the hope to collect more material for his book brought him back to his feet. Years later, another dream came true when he saw his words in print.

The easy-to-relate-to poems and world famous illustrations make Where Elephants Go to Die the perfect coffee table book.
