Chibuku
We were drinking Chibuku
That brown kaffir beer
Discussing an elephant
I'd shot near the weir
Its tusks were 50-pounders
Cracked, and a little thin
He was blind in one eye
Where a stick poked in
We'd caught him sleepin'
Leaning against a tree
Drunk from marula
My P.H., a tracker and me
I gave him a solid
Right in front of the ear
He never heard it comin'
When you're deaf you can't hear!
We drank another Chibuku
That brown kaffir beer
To celebrate the elephant
I'd buggered near the weir
His tusks were 60-pounders
A right formidable foe
And it took a lot of skill
To put him down you know?
We drank another skud
Of that brown kaffir beer
Toastin' the marauder
I'd whacked near the weir
His tusks were 70-pounders
A cheeky old chap
That had pounded many a native
Into a brown puddin' like crap
We drank another Chibuku
That brown kaffir beer
To salute the rogue
I'd zapped near the weir
His tusks were 80-pounders
A bloody killin' machine
Draggin' two lethal tusks
With hate in between
We drank another skud
Of that brown kaffir beer
Reveling over the monster
I'd brained near the weir
His tusks were 90-pounders
And he was chuggin' like a bus
On the road to Harare
Comin' after us
After drinking all that Chibuku
That brown kaffir beer
Here's the real story
Now that my mind is clear
His tusks were 100-pounders
And he charged us from the rear
At least that's how the
story goes…
When I'm drinkin Chibuku beer!
